From January 9, 2019 to January 10, 2020, Associate Professor Fan Guoqiang from our school visited the University of Texas at Austin continuously for one year.
The University of Texas at Austin is located in Austin, the capital of Texas. It is the flagship campus of the University of Texas system. It is also a world-renowned top public research university and one of the first eight universities in the United States’ most prestigious "Public Ivy League". In 2020, UT-Austin ranked 25th in the QS American University Rankings and 38th in the Times World University Rankings.
Associate Professor Fan Guoqiang's co-supervisor is Professor Li Huaiyin, the director of the East Asia Center of the University of Texas at Austin. Professor Li is an internationally renowned expert on China issues. During his stay in the United States, Associate Professor Fan Guoqiang received a lot of guidance from Professor Li in academic research and benefited a lot. During this year, he knew a lot about the research of overseas Sinology, including its focus, representatives and trends.
During the visiting year, Associate Professor Fan Guoqiang joined in the courses of Introduction to China; Post-Mao: China/Transform; Women and gender in China taught by Professor Li. In each course, Professor Li carefully prepared the lessons and explained wonderfully. American students also actively interacted with teachers in the classroom on the basis of being fully familiar with the teaching materials. The special "impact-response" teaching method of American colleges and universities impressed him deeply, and he deeply felt that domestic colleges and universities were lack of such teaching methods and methods.
In addition, during his stay in the United States, Associate Professor Fan Guoqiang also participated in a number of high-level academic conferences on Chinese historical research. Especially for the 48th Annual Academic Conference hosted by the American Asian Historical Society that year, Associate Professor Fan Guoqiang not only participated in the whole process, but also gave a keynote speech on the relevant topics of the research on the history of China’s War of Resistance in the sub-forum of the conference, which was praised a lot by the participants. It displayed the mental outlook and scholarly demeanor of the College of Marxism in Jiangsu University on the foreign academic stage.
